Muslim Magomayev

A voice with which a whole country fell in love, forgave and hoped. A baritone from Baku who became the idol of the Union from the Baltic to the Pacific — and yet remained his own, a son of Baku.

Who he was

A voice the whole country knew

Muslim Magomayev united an operatic school with the soul of popular song: a sumptuous baritone, a noble manner and a rare charisma. He was recognised from the first note, and his concerts filled stadiums.

Grandson of a great Azerbaijani composer, he carried his grandfather's name through his whole life — and himself became a legend, the pride of Baku and of the whole multi-ethnic Union.

Where to start

"I sang and will sing of love — it is the only thing worth stepping onto a stage for."

Years later

His songs still play today

Decades have passed, eras and idols have changed — yet "Queen of Beauty", "The Wedding" and "Nocturne" still play at celebrations and in the headphones of new generations. Magomayev's voice proved stronger than time.

Memory and legacy

His greatest song

A love that lasted a lifetime

His most beautiful story was not the stage but his love for Tamara Sinyavskaya — a union of two great artists that lasted until his very last day.
